This great sociology blog recently posted a documentary called "Guys and Dolls" (NSFW), about men who own Real Dolls. It's a really interesting film, but also pretty depressing. There's no doubt that the creators of Lars and the Real Girl (which I still need to see) watched this documentary first. It's interesting to note that many of the men seem to have strange relationships with their mothers - Freud would have had a field day with these guys if he were still alive. In all honesty, I think that the $6,500 these men spend on their dolls would be much better spent on a psychiatrist.
