This weekend's New York Times had a looong (over 6,000 words!) cover story, about soldiers who commit crimes once they're back at home, that made me really sad. So many of them are suffering from undiagnosed, untreated Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, but feel pressure to just "suck it up." I'd be more frightened if a returning soldier wasn't traumatized or fazed at all by what he or she saw over there. The war in Iraq has so many echoes of the Vietnam War, yet the U.S. Government seems to be making all the same mistakes.
