Presidential Chauvinism

I was sort of shocked to see that in Facebook & ABC News's latest political poll, 20% of respondents said that a woman could not be as effective a President as a man. I'm willing to bet every single one of them is a (chauvinistic) male. It's kind of amazing to me that someone would vote for a presidential candidate based on superficial reasons like their gender than for their political platform, although such behavior is obviously a reality. For instance, Condoleezza Rice and Hillary Clinton are both women, but are very different in terms of their politics, among other things. It's pretty ridiculous to say that neither of them could lead a country just because they have an extra X chromosome. Who knows how long it will take for political gender equality in the U.S. to catch up with that of Chile, Switzerland, New Zealand, Finland, Liberia, the Phillippines and Ireland.
