A couple in Italy was recently forced by the court to change their son's name from Friday to Gregory. I think Friday is kind of a cute name, but apparently the Italian court thought it was "ridiculous or shameful." Italians are typically not very creative with their baby names, and maybe that's why. I'm not sure if people still tend to do it this way, but Italian naming traditions dictate that the first son be named after the father's father, the second son after the mother's father, the first daughter after the father's mother and the second daughter after the mother's mother (after that, I guess they can choose whatever names they want). By this logic, I would have been named Florence. However, this rule makes family trees very confusing, because everyone in the entire family ends up having the same few names - my dad and several of his cousins have the exact same name, because they're all named after his grandpa. And somehow, two of my grandpa's brothers ended up being named Pasquale. We're still trying to figure that one out.
